All the world's a stage... and all that. So, for those of us who like to "play Faire," here are some of my favorite virtual places. This list will grow, of course, as I find new sites.
Pendragon Costumes
Some of the sexiest doublets for men come from Pendragon. The ladies' bodices aren't
bad, either.
The Dye Spot
Handmade and hand-dyed cotten clothing. The shirts, skirts, etc. are a nice weight,
light but still with substance. My Dye Spot bodice has lasted many years and many wearers,
and is still the most comfortable one I own. The only catch? Make SURE you follow the instructions
for the first washing, or you'll be very sorry indeed.
Faire Pair Tights and Such
These tights are worn by Broon. Need anything more be said?
(All right, just a little bit more -- they come in solid colors OR panels. Velvet. Yum.)
Moccasins By
Mail
I have always wanted a pair of these knee high boots. I realize they're impractical. And hot.
And when would you ever wear them?
I still want them.
Broon
The one, the only, the crazy. The wearer of velvet tights. He eats fire,
juggles, and does escape artist stuff, but we mostly like his irreverant, sarcastic sense of humor.
Sound and Fury
Fine purveyors of "Fakespearian Theater." These guys have an extensive and well-maintained site,
complete with message boards (which they actually moderate).
Moonie the Magnificant
Okay, I lied. There's no link here. If I could find a web page for Moonie, it would be posted,
I promise you. As it is, you'll just have to take my word for it that he's great.
UPDATE: I have found a fan site. Not nearly as good as an
official site, but it does have pictures.
The Minstrels of Mayhem
A friend of mine pulled me in to see these guys, and I am forever in his debt. Beautiful music -- a very
talented group, and funny, too. Huzzah!
For those who are wondering, you can order
their music on the site. Well, sort of -- there's an order form, but you send it snail mail.
Northern California Renaissance Pleasure
Faire
My home faire. The Vacaville location can't hold a candle to the former Novato one, but still
well worth the drive.
The League of Renaissance
Merchants
This is the list of members in the League of Renaissance Merchants -- folks who stell Renaissance
& Medieval goods online. A great way to browse and see what's out there. If you're interested in joining,
check out the main page.
The Directorie
"Being an extensive guide to RENAISSANCE FAIRES. Medieval Festivals, Olde English Reenactments AROUND
THE WORLD." And very comprehensive it is, too. Listings and links for various Faires, performers, and
web rings.
The Renaissance Faire Junkie
An interesting personal site with LOTS of pictures.
